Limiting Beliefs and How to Overcome Them

Do you believe that there are things in life that you can’t do? 

You’re not alone. 

Many people carry around limiting beliefs without even realizing it. 

These thoughts, words, and actions hold us back from achieving our goals and living the life we desire. 

But how does this happen to so many of us?

Honesty

Let’s be honest…it’s because we’ve bought into the lies society has told us over time about who we are or what is possible for us. The truth is that these lies don’t serve any purpose but to sabotage our success! And I should know…I used to have a lot of limiting beliefs.

Let’s look at a few of the common ones – and then let’s talk about how we overcome them!

Limiting Beliefs About Yourself

First, let’s talk about limiting beliefs that are directed at yourself. Have you ever held back from trying something new because you were scared of what others would think? It’s not just the fear of being judged by other people holding us back but also our own internal voice. When we have low self-esteem or doubt ourselves, it is easy to believe all the negative things society has told us – even if they aren’t true!

Limiting Belief Awareness

If you don’t love and approve of yourself unconditionally, then chances are there will be a lot more room for criticism in your life than praise. Negative thoughts can become ingrained into our subconscious mind – which makes them very difficult to overcome on their own. (Raise your hand if you can relate to that big, ol’ truth bomb!) 

The first step towards overcoming these lies is becoming aware of them. If you find yourself always being skipped over for a promotion, for example, ask yourself why that is? Do you believe deep down inside that you’re not worthy, or are there other reasons at play here? You must become aware of your limiting beliefs before they can be overcome!

Lastly, let’s talk about limiting beliefs that hold us back from achieving our dreams or even accomplishing small everyday tasks. It doesn’t matter what it is – we all face challenges on some level, but our limiting thoughts often make it difficult to cross those hurdles. When I started my career, I believed there were things I may not accomplish because I was a woman.  I thought I might not be good enough. But the only thing holding me back was my own limiting beliefs!

Break Free

Fortunately, I’ve since come to realize that we can overcome any limiting belief if we want it bad enough. All we have to do is take gradual steps in the right direction and not worry about reaching life’s big milestones all at once. When you feel yourself getting stuck on something or procrastinating because of your thoughts, take a moment to refocus, create a plan, and put that plan into action. Believe me – there are ways around the obstacles blocking our path, but for this change to occur, we must believe they can be overcome!

I wholeheartedly believe that once we can break free from these limiting beliefs then opportunities come rushing towards us like never before! All it takes is one little change within ourselves to make all the difference. 

So set yourself some goals today – big or small; just don’t let anything hold you back.
